As I look forward to the future filled with graduation, a new city, a first real job, and all the other transitions that come with graduating college, I can’t help but reflect on the things I have learned from my experience interning at Newton O’Neill Communications.
While the next year holds many daunting changes ahead, I can at least say that starting my first job is now less intimidating after learning so much from Lisa and the rest of the team at NONC. This internship has been far from the normal running errands, filing papers, and busywork that are often associated with an internship.
Instead it has been filled with writing press releases, pitches and calendar listings, maintaining relationships with and working with the media, learning how to juggle working with multiple clients, attending and working client events, and of course having fun along the way! I’ve been able to learn how to use multiple online softwares and learned professional email communication, which I know will all be helpful for any endeavor I take on in the future.
In this unique internship, I have been given a lot of freedom and responsibility in my projects that have helped me hone my PR skills as well as general professional skills that I will carry with me as I start my career. Next year, though I will be working in real estate, the skills that I have obtained during my time with NONC have already proven to be invaluable and helpful as I enter this new phase.
I’m so thankful for everything I have learned and continue to learn through my internship. I feel more prepared for this next step in my life, and I’m even more excited to take on the real world!
