What's Next?

The first things that come to mind when you think of internship tasks are running errands, filing papers or picking up lunch, but my time at Newton O’Neill Communications has been spent learning the ins and outs of the public relations industry. With graduation a little over a month away, and the job search in full swing, I am so thankful for everything Lisa and the rest of the NONC team has taught me.

I can’t say I’m not nervous about leaving the familiarity and comfort of the UT Austin campus. The idea of leaving school and entering the “real-world” scares me. However, the experience and knowledge I’ve gained from my internships makes me feel prepared and more importantly, excited. With the number of press releases, pitches and emails I have written, I can say I’m on my way to becoming a PR pro.

As for the future, I’m not sure exactly where I want to end up. However, I have realized I want to be doing public relations and/or marketing work for companies and organizations that are focused on improving the community. Working with clients like The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Kids in a New Groove while at Newton O’Neill have shown me that public interest is what I am most passionate about.

Wish me luck!
